If you want to get started in mountain biking the best way is just to get out there and get involved. Pick up a copy of a current cycling magazine for details on the race scene. Ask around at your local bike shop, there are always plenty of people out there willing to help you find out more information. There are a number of categories that you can enter. As you can see from Niki’s results, she entered in 'Sport" category for her first few events. It is the equivalent of B grade, which eliminates the intimidation of having to race against the Pro riders at your first event. Find out when mountain bike races are on in your area and give it a go. But you don’t have to race to enjoy the benefits of mountain biking; at any level cycling is a great sport, you just need to get out there and ride.
